Traveling Adventures

So it has been awhile since I have posted about my travels here in Europe. So I am going to go back a few weeks and talk about my trip to Berlin, Germany and Prague, Czech Republic.

This trip started the week after Spring Break on Wednesday, March 9, as my business class left by train to Berlin. I had the opportunity to spend 3 full days in Berlin. While in Berlin, I was there on a school trip with the business class I am taking. We visited a few different businesses while in Berlin, as well as seeing the sights. Here are a few highlights from my days in Berlin

  • Wednesday: I arrived in Berlin in the afternoon, so the first thing we did was to find our business professor so we knew where we had to go. After finding our professor, we made our way to the hotel we were staying at. The place we stayed at was like an indoor camp grounds. The hotel  renovated old campers and caravans and converted them in to the “cabins” that we stayed in. After checking in, we made our way to the BMW Motorcycle plant located in Berlin. While on our way there we stopped and saw a few of the sights. After our visit with BMW we had the opportunity to walk around Berlin and see the Berlin Wall (East Side Gallery), the Brandenburg Gate, and the Reichstag building (home of parliament).
  • Thursday: We spent the morning walking around the city. We visited the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Gendarmenmarkt (here are two identical cathedrals and a theater), Check-point Charlie, and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (was heavily bombed during WWII). At the memorial we also had the opportunity to walk through the museum that is at the memorial. After seeing these different sights we had business meetings with three different businesses. First, we visited with the Social Impact Lab, which is a company that helps different social business start-ups. After this we visited with both German Trade & Invest and U.S. Commercial Services. These businesses help companies looking to come into the German market for what ever their product/service is. For supper this day I had the opportunity to eat at a traditional German meal.
  • Friday: Our day consisted of visiting ITB Berlin. This convention is a tourism convention, we visited because we had a meeting with a Romanian travel agency to talk about a project we were doing for them. After our meeting we had the opportunity go and walk around the convention and talk with the different people there. I talked with people there representing the state of South Dakota.

After Berlin I had the opportunity to travel on to the city of Prague. This was one of my favorite cities to see. The location of the city protected it from the bombings during WWII, so the architecture was still intact unlike other Eastern European cities. I left for Prague (by train) on Saturday morning with 3 other business students, and 2 others were to meet up with us later in the day. The first stop in Prague was to check into our hostel. After this we set out to explore the city, and did not have a plan in mind. While wandering Prague I saw the St. Charles Bride, Old Town Square, the St. Vitus Cathedral/Prague Castle, and the Wenceslas Square. I also ate my favorite thing I have had yet, it was called a chimney (it was bread covered in sugar and almonds) and it was delicious! Then on Sunday we spend our time showing the others who joined us later what we had saw on Saturday and the John Lennon wall. Then I boarded a night train and made my way back to the Netherlands. We arrived back in Zwolle around 10 in the morning.

Thanks for reading. It is crazy to think that my four months is coming to an end. Next week I will be going on my last school trip to Rome. I just want to say thanks for all the prayers while I have been over here. I

Brianna
